Hand 1
(f. 20v)Upright fluid minuscule of regular module, with occasional use of ‘boules’ or hooks at apices such as lambdas, taus or iotas, and a mannered curved hook in the ‘nose’ of zetas (written as enlarged 3). Torallas Tovar compared the hand to the Reggio style of Nikolaos (RGK I, no. 524: sample from Vat. gr. 1646), but the ms lacks the pointed quality of this scribe; rather, the general features (upright deltas, general neatness) fit better the example of Reggio script by Georgios (RGK I, no. 129: Vat. gr. 974), though again not exactly in the details, and again is being overall rounder in appearance. Nevertheless, these similarities confirm a dating to the first quarter of the twelfth century and suggest a Southern Italian provenance for this ms. Cf. also Loukas (RGK II, no. 334: Paris. gr. 790). A few lines are written in a more cursive style (scholarly hand?) at (f. 20v), ll. 6-17, with increased abbreviation and a majuscule form of beta as well as open omegas: these lines could still be by the same hand, though. Occasionally the lower stroke of phi is prolonged through several lines into the lower margin, e.g. (f. 19v), (f. 77v), (f. 79r), (f. 125v). Rubrication in carmine; simple enlarged initials throughout; the beta at (f. 55r) is unusually enlarged and embellished with dots and crosses.Additions

(f. 8v): headband “ad intaglio in negativo” in carmine ink with a scrolling tri-lobed motif and knots along the frame. (f. 21v): headband “ad intaglio in negativo” in carmine ink with geometrical and phytomorphic patterns and two symmetrical stylized palmettes at the top outer corners. Simple undulating text-dividers at (f. 106r), (f. 159r). Other headbands may have been planned but were never executed, leaving a number of blanks as detailed above.
