Binding
Medieval binding. Originally, leather over bevelled wooden boards. 3 double raised bands and endbands. Originally, corner and centre bosses. Catchplate and strap attachment plate of brass. Spine, two damaged labels, the first one illegible; the second has what looks like ‘273’ written in red ink.
SL1 and RCI: the detached pastedowns consist of fragments in a pregothic script from Honorius Augustodunensis's Speculum ecclesiae (f. SL1vb paragraph beginning with ‘PAVLUS’ see PL, vol. 172, col. 974).

Leather almost completely removed, only minute pieces remain. Holes on LCO and RCO after bosses. Straps missing. Spine, the lables seem to have been reattached directly on the bookblock after the leather was removed. Board attachment visible on LCI. Both covers carry signs of bookworms, RCO is especially affected.
According to the addition on f. 208v the manuscript was given to the Carthusian monastery in Buxheim in 1435 by Master Johannes (the same year he died). The manuscript probably remained at the monastery library until the monastery was dissolved in 1802. However, on f. 1r and f. 166v there are some short additions by a medieval hand in French, which indicates that the manuscript has either travelled or that a French speaker has travelled to the manuscript.
